Nominations for Honorary Awards
Open Christian University and its independent colleges/centres can award a small number of honorary doctorate degrees (Dr HC – Honoris Causa) per year on a selective basis to distinguished individuals who merit exceptional recognition for substantial achievements and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the mission of the university and its independent colleges/centre as articulated in the Statement of Purpose.
Honorary degrees and fellowships are awarded at Convocation [in April, August and December] on the authority of the Senate, and the Senate selects those to be honoured on the recommendation of its Awards Committee.
All members of the university community, including students and alumni/ alumnae, can nominate the honorary degree recipient
Self-nomination shall be allowed and the self-nominee shall submit his motivation letter along with his/her portfolio
Unless the Academic Senate deems it appropriate, there will be no call for nominations. Nominations will be accepted on a rolling basis.
The following persons shall be eligible:
Prominent in a career in a field of scholarship, private or public service, or performing arts. culture, sports. religion, law and literature
Extraordinary contributors to social transformation, nationally or internationally
the following persons shall not be eligible:
Serving members of the Board
Serving politicians or candidates for elected public office
